Burch Beats Radio Show #6: "Cinematic"

Here we go, this was a fun one to play on the radio and talk about the context for all of these songs. Some great movies represented here, including 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?' which in my mind has the best soundtrack of all time. Also represented here are The Good the Bad and the Ugly, Drive, The Man With The Iron Fists, Blade Trinity, Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction.

If you ever need to feel like you are The Man, skip directly to Fatal by RZA.

I also played a song from Freedom Writers but due to old iTunes file locking practices I couldn't add it to the playlist, so give it a listen:

Prelude to Radio Show #6

The playlist for tonight is "Cinematic". I was inspired by RZA to make this a whole playlist because I am just way too excited fot the movie The Man With the Iron Fists (directed by RZA, produced by Quentin Tarantino). I needed an excuse to play the songs I have been playing on repeat lately and my favorite songs from movies of the past.
The score was done by RZA and Howard Drossin... this instrumental set has been the best study music I have possibly ever found, so check out The Man With the Iron Fists (Original Motion Picture Score) (on Spotify).

More glorious however, is the actual soundtrack. With a ton of talented lyricists and amazing production, RZA has created a masterpiece. The only thing missing is the actual movie. I will be playing my favorites tonight, but here is the whole thing:

A song by the Wu-Tang Clan as a whole again?! And they even performed it live on Jimmy Fallon:

Burch Beats Radio Show #5: "Flow"

Smooth or choppy, quick or slow and deliberate, every flow has its place. Here are some examples of diverse flows that sound awesome and compliment the content of the lyrics as well.

Radio Show #4: "Impulsive Selections"

I didn't have a theme for the night, I just played whatever felt like needed to be next. It morphed into a unique hour of music and if you don't like 11/14 of these songs then I might have to re-examine my music tastes

Also check out this funky tune from ZZ Ward which is made even cooler when Kendrick Lamar comes in at 2:25

Burch Beats Radio Show #3: "Is This Hip Hop?"

The playlist from October 3rd. I am really excited about how diverse and entertaining this playlist is. Lots of songs that blur the boundaries of different genres. Is it still hip hop?  (if you click on the stream as opposed to just play it, you can see the whole track list without actually listening to it)

Also this song popped up today and it is another great example of genres blending: Pretty Lights - So Bright
